Be Mine Valentine Today & Everyday

I recently overheard a couple of young ladies discussing their views on Valentine's day. The older of the two gals was all enthused about the special day and about the plans she had made for her and her beau. Buying flowers, balloons, cards and I'm sure she didn't have a pair of flannel pj's in her La Senza bag!

The other had a distinctly different opinion about the day. Stating that she dislike the day in general "why should he show me how special I am, today and not every other day of the year", and I thought for a moment that she might actually have a point. All this pomp and circumstance just because it's February 14th? ..............

And all of a sudden, my romantic side woke up. Ofcourse Valentine's Day shouldn't be the only day that we should feel loved and appreciated, but it does give us a reason to do a little extra, say something that we have been too busy to say and restore the romance in our lives for the next couple of months, ok, weeks...well at least for the weekend!

So whether you're, just the two of you, or your celebrating as a family - make the day special. Make a special meal, add some candlelight and a decandent dessert ... and don't forget to say I LOVE YOU.

Slowing Down & Actually Enjoying The Season

'Tis the season! By this time every year I have to remind myself to sit back, slow down and enjoy. We all seemed to get so wrapped up...well in, wrapping, shopping, planning, inviting, decorating...rushing that I don't think we actually stop and look around and absorb the wonderful things that are happening around us.

Here are some tips to help you slow down and escape some of the holiday craziness:

Take a drive around your neighbourhood at night and enjoy the lights
Make a rich cup of cocoa and drink it by the fire while listening to Christmas music
Call an old friend and catch up
Watch your kids have a ball in the snow without thinking about what else you should be doing!
Remember that memories are made, not by the gifts, decorations or food but by the time you spend with the ones that mean the most to you.
....and just don't forget to breathe.
